First season rifle

Looks like we should have some cooler weather for the opening weekend of the first rifle season.
Anyone have any updates of the elk activity? Is the rut winding down? was it a late rut this year?

This 1st rifle could be really good for the following reasons:

It was very warm during archery and muzzy season. It was 80 degrees at 10,000 feet some days which really shut down bugling activity. They should be bugling well now.

It's been 3 weeks since the end of archery - normally only 2 weeks between archery and 1st rifle. The elk should be settled down.

Good moon phase.

Great weather forecast.

Seems like the rut was early this year as the best action was around the 2nd week of archery. Saw some rutting activity this last weekend but also saw some bigger bulls singled up in a hole. Several bachelor groups of 7 bulls already. Hard to say but the weather should make for good hunting. Higher elevations have some snow.
