Colorado Unit 12 MZ-12 points

What to do, What to do?

We have (12) points and in proverbial no-man's land for NR elk in Colorado. I talked to a CO hunt planner today, and he did mention Unit 12 MZ....which I believe we can draw with 12 points this spring.

Question: With (100) MZ tags, and (600) bow tags, and god-knows what else in terms of cow tags or deer hunters, is Unit 12 worth the 12 points?

Is there trespass/fee access that puts you into a better access situation to the public land and slightly further away from people?

Is a 270-290" 6x6 doable? I can't even ask if 300" bulls are in there, because I doubt they are in any quantity.

Thoughts on burning 12 CO NR Elk points?

Thanks
Chris

Unit 12 gets a LOT of hunting pressure. Can't imagine spending 12 points there unless it is for a large private land hunt.

My hunting spot is so secret, not even the elk have found it yet.

No......

There are much better units..

Try 45,48,49 the are high country and rugged terrain but I have friends that MZ and archery there and do very well

I personally would not spend 12 points on an OTC unit hunt. You can get a 1st rifle tag for this unit as a leftover, maybe pick up one of those and hunt it this year before you spend your points on a muzz hunt.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-06-18 AT 06:13AM (MST)[p]It has always astounded me that this unit takes that many points for a MZ tag. As stated, there are leftovers and it is OTC for the later seasons! Def not worth spending nearly that many points on.

Also, my business partner has hunted there 1st rifle for many years. While they generally about 50% on elk, they have never killed a bull even approaching 300, mostly raghorn 4-5 points, occasional small 6
