Frying Pan River

Anyone on here fish it on a regular basis? Was pondering a winter trip and wondering if a person can get into fish all day, how the pressure is, and if that frying pan road gets plowed regularly in winter? Specifically considering the upper portion below the dam. Read a couple reports saying it's currently fishing pretty good but there's a planned increase in flow after Jan 1.

Thanks.

It typically is very good in the winter, it's your typical tailwater shenanigans. If you are good at techy fishing; long leaders, 6 to 7x, size 18 to 22 flies and good drifts. It gets pounded with people year round but many people don't really know what they are doing and spook more fish than they catch. I personally don't fish it much more do to the crowds and watching people snag fish off the redds but I used to have some fun days up there.

Nice fish, thanks. Is it mostly sight-fishing the fish or probing deeper holes? I imagine a bit of both with the lower flows. I'm relatively new to the whole fly fishing thing (just started this fall), but living in NM I've been going to the san juan and using stuff down to size 26. Just wondering if I should take a longer trip here, or come up to CO. I always enjoy new country though...

Agree with the comments from Coloradoboy. It will definitely be stealth fishing. I have fished The Pan quite a bit and usually have had success, but I have always struggled in the winter...but a day on the river is better than sitting around! Have fun!
