Gov tag holder success

Just curious if any of the 3 hunters connected on anything big this year?

Honestly I have heard nothing. It was a down year as far as mega 220 plus inch non typical like gov tag holders dream about. I know one guy for sure was still out looking still as of thanksgiving.

It's kind of sad to have waited all these years for a late 44 tag and now the quality of bucks seems to be down.
How about bucks in the 190 and up class? Are there any of them showing up?

LAST EDITED ON Jan-04-19 AT 01:35PM (MST)[p]The genetics have and always will be in 44. This past year was an extreme drought and feed was poor when bucks were trying to put horn on. Thus resulting in a lot of bucks not growing out full potential. I've personally seen two bucks this past year that I'd say would break the 220 mark. Neither of them in 44 though. 180 to 190 is pretty par for the course in 44. I had two family friends take 190ish bucks in the 3rd season. A guy could probably drive around the winter range in 44 right now and see a handful of 180 plus class bucks in a weekend if they wanted.

My current situation precludes me from caring about your opinion but go ahead and give voice to it anyway...

One tagged a whitetail for sure Mebbe the first ever??? Really nice typpy.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-05-19 AT 11:32AM (MST)[p]I've always wondered why we don't just have a whitetail only gov tag... probably due to that fact that the season dates and tag availability on whitetails are very liberal to begin with.

I'm almost certain it is because they know they have enough $ already???

More likely on second thought is instead of paying them exorbitant fees for the paper anyone who has that cash available can just buy a regular tag and pay for access to the types of property that consistently produce such animals.

For big WT you don't need the gov't you need the private property trespass rights.

And for that money they will boot it out of the high fence that morning so it qualifies

With the money they spend, what I cant figure out is why don't they go to a game farm , and get it over with. When you have 8 guys or more finding the animal for you, and the use of helicopters where does it end

Governor and landowner tags would seem a little more favorable to other hunters that wait in line and apply for tags every year if they had to actually burn pref pts when they buy tags! It doesn't seem too terribly right or fair that they can buy tags and hunt EVERY year while accumulating pref pts?

I'm pretty sure the 2 auction tag holders dont collect prefetence points. As far As the raffle tag recipient...?

In 2000 or 2001, back when the Gov tag season went into Jan, a MASSIVE whitetail was killed in the eastern plains with a Gov tag holder

Jims wants em to give up all their pp's when they buy that Gov tag, a couple hundred grand ain't enough to him.

Its a "free" tag not free in $ but you still get to hunt your draw tag. The WT gov tag went straight into his other deer hunt after scoring the big typpy.

I just read all the governing principles for the issuing of the "gov tag" and nowhere did I see any mention of "fair". Maybe I missed a second page?

I think the bigger issue is the landowner tags not using points then the governor's tag...if you spend 100K you can keep your points! It would be interesting to see what would happen to landowner tag prices if you lost your points if you bought one would do to prices. It would likely lower demand and the
price until people dumped points (which would then make drawing a tag harder and add to point creep!). I don't know the answer, but there are lots and lots of landowner tags, so the landowners would not be in favor of it, the outfitters would not be in favor of it and those buying those tags would not be in favor of it.

I am guessing only the average Joe would be in favor of this and what is ironic is that it might hurt the average Joe in the short term!
