New Small game license = decreased grouse population?

I wonder if they have taken in to account that there will be many more grouse killed under the new "qualifying" license system?
Will it hurt the grouse population?

I realize that the guys just applying for a point won't hunt, but those of use that hunt every year anyway probably will. I know I will take a shotgun this year.

I'm a NR I tried for 2 hours to buy a point,so I called the main office and they said to try back in a few days because there system was getting over run.why don't they just charge me a $100 and be done with it.So I don't have to get on the net and buy a small game permit then go out and get back on to buy a point. I don't want a small game permit, and all they want is are money. So make it easier on all of us.

They reciever federal funding thru the Pittman Robertson act based on how many licenses they sell. The more they sell, the more federal funding they get.

I don't see a decrease in the Grouse population but I do foresee an increase in people applying for preference points for the other species. Since they already have to buy a small game license and a habitat stamp to apply for one they may as well apply for the other three at $7-$9 apiece. Then in a year or two they will tell us we need preference points fees on those species to reduce the number of people applying for preference points. And a bunch of morons will stand up and applaud.

So have a drop down screen to purchase your small game license on the big game page when you apply for a permit or a point, or the other way around I don't care.

Maybe it will be too complicated for a lot of people to figure out, so there won't be much competition for tags this year. I'm okay with that

If another 100,000 people are hunting grouse every year, that will be negligible?? I could easily kill at least a couple every year, and that would be the first time for me.

I predict a drop in apps this year for sure, but as stated, of the people who apply, more people will put in for more species. I will apply for an antelope point for the first time. As to what will happen next year...?????..???

They could give me points for a $1, don't care don't want em. The rules will change, point creep, more money etc...just give me my CO deer point and I'm good it's about the only one you can actually use and get any real value from...IMHO.

Hasbean just lets the grouse fly into the upper portion of his atv at high speed. I've seen it. No qualifying license involved.

Colorado definitely has an interesting way to purchase a bonus point. I think the ones that have applied for many years will continue to do so until they draw. Most of the ones that were wanting to start to build pts will probably never start.

My current situation precludes me from caring about your opinion but go ahead and give voice to it anyway...

I share your concern as well on this. (the decrease in squirrels) sorry the quote button is acting squirrely...

They don't give a whit about the elk and deer numbers (except as to have enough to massage the #'s) so I certainly think they will gladly trade lower small game numbers for a huge bump in pay. There is no bottom they will not tolerate for the corporate bottom line.

There won't be 100000 extra people hunting grouse, and certainly not 100000 successfully. A few opportunistic kills are inevitable, but that was always the case. Dusky grouse are so widespread that it probably will only affect density along roads and heavily used trails, and probably not even then. Small game populations rise and fall in cycles that will always be more important to their numbers than hunting loss. Enjoy your grouse hunt while you try to find elk.

I will only grouse hunt after an elk is down! The license comes with a fishing license and I usually fish too! I have put plenty of elk in the freezer over the 30 plus years I have elk hunted, so bagging a grouse will be a bonus.

But I never bought the license until now when I am forced to, so like me, there will be a lot of others doing the same thing, and certainly more will be killed.

I too doubt it will decrease the population substantially, but sometimes things like this bring unintended consequences.
