I am looking to cash in for an archery or muzzy hunt. I will have lots of scouting time in July and August. In fact almost
Planning to scout 2 weeks straight in August.

I will only have 1 week to hunt plus weekends. I am leaning towards archery because the extra weekend. But muzzy will be easier to kill with...

The unit choice is harder. Unit 2 has bigger bulls from my experience but they are spread over greater areas with few in between. I know unit 2 well from
Years of coyote hunting, know the roads, know the area that hold elk. But do not know how the elk act in September.

Unit 10
Smaller areas, elk more concentrated, not as familiar right now with roads and access. Again have weeks worth of scouting ahead of me this summer.

I am not happy as I will have limited time off this hunting season but I need to hunt this year!!!

Plus and additional thought on the muzzy vs bow. Your adding one weekend. I think you chances are much greater on killing a bigger bull with a gun if the difference was like two extra weeks might be singing a different tune...just adding two days during desperation time...I say muzzy

LAST EDITED ON Mar-22-19 AT 03:19PM (MST)[p]Go unit 2. 10 has some really good bulls but your going to find yourself fighting the monument and private land more. Either one can be a fun hunt, Ive had the chance to be in on multiple hunts in 2 and 10 now and I've always enjoyed 2 more personally. Biggest bull I've been apart of killing was in 10 though. I like 2 for the fact that the elk are more spread out throughout the unit was 10 majority of the elk are stacked up In the northern end of the unit from stuntz ridge working east to tanks peak and then moosehead mountain of course.

I looked a long time at 10. If you are in great shape and have the time and ability to pack one out, 10 is a great unit. Where I got info was just so far up into the steep hills. Couldn't try it with my bad back.

Buff, are you sure your not talking about unit 1? Unit 10 has roads all over it.

Jake, there are a couple of great spots that do require humping in and packing an animal out if successful. Granted there are roads going into the area but they unfortunately are on pvt and the LO's will not grant access even for a fee.

My bad. That's why you shouldn't post from a bar stool after watching your bracket blow up on day two. Yes, Unit 1. That would be murder on my back.

I'd for sure do muzzy over archery. The season dates for muzzy are really good this year. Unit 2 muzzy would be my choice.
