What can I draw with 10 AZ elk points?

Got 10 pts for AZ elk. What could I realistically expect to draw for next fall? I will gain a loyalty point so I'd have 12 total in 2016. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks

LAST EDITED ON Nov-28-14 AT 07:35AM (MST)[p]Non Resident. Archery, Muzzy, rifle. I hunt them all. Just trying to figure it out since I'll probably only be able to do this once realistically. Archery is probably the best time to hunt I would guess but open to ideas for sure.

I would do an archery hunt then. 2 week season during the middle of the rut... You could draw a lot of good units.

Tough to beat an archery elk hunt in az with the combination of rut, weather, trophy potential, terrain.

I would have to look closer at the odds data, but you should be close to or have enough points to look into unit 1, 27, 8, 7, 5b and a few others.

If you are nonresident, you might seriously want to try to draw in 2015 rather than wait for something you are close to. They are changing it in 2016 so that only half the nonresident quota will go in the max points round. That will increase nonresident wait on getting a max point tag, but make it slightly possible to get any hunt at any point level.

In 2014 for the early archery hunts in unit 1 and 27 here were the minimum points folks had in the 20% bonus pass.

For unit 1 - 20 out of 74 1st and 2nd applicants with 11 points drew tags

For unit 27 - 14 out of 52 1st and 2nd applicants with 10 points drew tags

Below is the link to the bonus point pass for 2014. Refer to hunt # 3118 for unit 1 and hunt # 3141 for unit 27 for the archery elk hunts.

http://www.azgfd.gov/eservices/docu... Point Report - Bonus Pass by Hunt Number.pdf

The take away is that with 10 points this year an applicant could have possibly drawn an archery tag in unit 27, but not in unit 1.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-28-14 AT 09:51PM (MST)[p] The unit 27 NR cap was filled in the 11 point pool.

I did incorrectly have unit 8 in the mix. You should draw 8 as a NR with 10 points.
We'll know more in mid February when the new report comes out. It will split res/nr on a per point, per hunt basis. The unknown going into the 2015 draw ,is whether public discussion of the proposed 2016 changes will bring mid point guys to apply.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-29-14 AT 08:10AM (MST)[p]Thanks for the intel. I can't seem to draw a tag in Arizona to save my life. Looks like G&F is recommending cutting Unit 8 archery tags from 200 to 150 Ouch.

WB,

You must have requested data from the AZGFD because their data online doesn't break the numbers down to NR v Res. I can't wait to see what the NR vs Res data looks like when it comes out.

Crossing fingers we can draw unit 1 with 12. Anyone know if the 2nd 50% will be straight random or weighed by points? Either way sucks if we fail.

>Bonus Points = weighted

OK well that would reduce the sting. Many states don't do that.
