AZ Draws UP

I just applied for a elk bonus pt. only and I did not have to buy a license this year.

Apparently they must have went to a 360 day license this year as it showed a number for a license purchased last year.

Nice!!

Some guys are going to lose bonus points thinking they have a license when in reality they won't have a valid license when the application deadline comes around.
It explains it under "qualifications" on page 8 of the regs. I think it is a bunch of garbage. Not really sure I understand it but I have a lifetime license so it doesn't matter anyway.

lifetime, pioneer or disabled veteran?s)
that is valid on the last day of the application
deadline for that draw. Youth applying for
big game hunts must be licensed. If an applicant
does not have a license that meets
that requirement, he or she must purchase
the license at the time of application."

Key phrase is "at the time of application". There will be a lot of whining this March.

I just received an email from AZF&G and it looks like I need to purchase a license.

They said IT is working on the website. I'm glad I checked or I might have lost my point for this year and my loyalty point.

Guys, just to reiterate what was said above!

You MUST have a 2015 license in order to apply for a tag or purchase a bonus point for this year for elk and antelope!

I can see the long faces now and the stories that may come out IF they use a paper application.."I bought my license in February, 2014 and the draw was up so I used that license to apply, as it was still valid in January at the start of the draw period and now I'm told I lost my Loyalty Point and this year's application point."

Yep could and probably will happen!

Don't let this happen to you!

This is good to know. So if you had one that expired 2/10/2015 or whenever a daw after the application period ends is, you would be ok for the draw?

That's the way the reg's read. As long as it is valid through the last day of the application period, you are good for the draw. If you draw a tag on a license that expires prior to your hunt, you must buy a license that is valid before you go hunting.

So If I buy a license and have the Start date activate on Feb. 10th then next year I would not have to buy a license?? Or do I always have to buy a license each year? Not sure I totally understand what it is saying?

If you're doing points only, you can buy a license on Feb 10 and use it next year to apply, provided the draw ends on Feb 9.

If you're going to hunt, you need a valid license to do so, and playing dates has no advantage.

Don't make hunters look like a bunch of dumb asses, pretty cut and dry you need to buy a new license every year to get a point. This is one case where it would be nice if licences were good for calendar year instead of date of purchase.

You could get burned if you try to buy a point in two different years on one license and they extend the application date due to "unusually" high volumes on the website the last few days of the application period.

I've gotten info on this issue from my outfitter. He recommended buy the license, log off, re-log in and apply for the bonus pt or apply for a draw.

the Game Dept is supposed issuing some News Releases on the issue.

So my sons current license expires Feb. 5th. Will the system allow me to buy a license right now or do I have to wait till the 6th to buy it and then apply for his points?

Again, you must buy the license for the year you are applying for.

If you have a license that is valid until Feb. 9th, you still need a new license to apply for a tag OR bonus points for 2015.

I called AZ G&F in Phoenix on this (Amber Munig) and this is the information I was given.

Don't mess yourselves up on this and loose that Loyalty Bonus Point!

The only way you can get away without buying a new license is if you bought last years on Feb 11. Any other date and you'll get bounced out of the draw if you don't buy a new one.

When I read the title of this thread, my heart skipped a beat, thought I missed he deadline!

If y'all don't mind losing your loyalty point and not gaining another point for this years draw, then don't buy the license.

I put in for 2015 non res AZ elk without thinking about a 2015 license. I used my 14 lic. because it never asked for a hunting lic. my 14 hunting license number just showed up. I don't know when it expires, so after I was done applying for the tag and thought about my 14 hunting lic. probably expiring before the draw. I bought a 2015 hunting license then called AZG&F and was told I was good to go....as long as I have a valid license on draw day, then I called the next day and asked someone else the same question and got the same answer.

I applied and it would only list my 2014 license as well. I have an email from the head of the draw outlining that my application is valid. I was very nervous talking to "Sissy" on the phone. I got the same thing telling me everything was good. I thought, given that I have 17 points, it might be a good idea to get someone from G&F to send me an email. I now have the proverbial "get out of jail free card" in the form of an email. I hope for a chance at 23 N or 9 both archery elk early. Best of luck in te draws to everyone.

With all this talk I've been hearing from guys with high points jumping on lesser units because of not knowing what 2016 will bring you might just be in the right place at the right time. With all those points no way would I jump ship now 9 - 23N or bust........ Best of luck.
