19B Javelina Suggestions

I was able to buy my son (11) and I left over tags for the upcoming Javelina hunt. We moved to Avondale in July from Utah and I am still trying to learn the areas. We have been up to the unit a couple of times and have yet to see a Javelina. I have no idea if we are just looking in the wrong areas or if I just dont know what I am looking for?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I used to hunt unit 19b for javelina but not anymore. A lot of the unit has access issues which makes hunting it less enjoyable. There's some areas mentioned on the arizona game and fish website, just type, "where to hunt", in the search, and it will come up. There's some javelina in the walnut creek area but there might also be access issues to some of it.

Thank you brian390 I will check out that area in the AM. I had been looking more on the 89 side as it has more public area.


I know all to well how hard it is to find good spots on public land and am truly thankful for the advise.

Try the portion of Unit 19B on Prescott National Forest lands east of the Williamson Valley road, starting about 15 miles south of Seligman and work all the country south to the big powerlines. There are some big limestone mesas and deep canyons that drain off to the east towards Big Chino Wash. You might also look at Big Black Mesa on the east side of the unit between Ash Fork and Paulden. Bullock Road will get you into the area, also national forest, just south of Ash Fork on Highway 89. There are some pretty rough roads to drive, but make the effort and check out all the waterholes you can find to check for tracks. You can also try to call Javelina in with a varmint call.
