I discovered I drew my second choice, archery Unit 1 early Bull!! Ive never hunted the unit but I know its going to be a great hunt. Im a resident so I will be doing plenty of scouting over the summer and will be doing this DIY. Im extremely excited and was wondering whos had any experience in that neck of the woods and what may be expected. I think im going to start around the wilderness areas and maybe the RES border. Any pointers as to general areas to check or avoid would be great. Also, im up for meeting and doing some scouting with good company who also has this tag. Cant wait to get out there!!

Good luck everyone!!

I wish I knew something about that unit to be able to pass on, unfortunately I don't, so I will just pass on good wishes and some jealousy! Have a blast

I drew unit 1, me and 324 others drew the late hunt. Wish I had an early hunt but with 8 points I was lucky to draw what I did. I don't plan on doing any scouting because I live in northern Utah, I will probably just try to arrive 3 days early. My biggest question right now is do I motel it or drag my trailer all the way there. I am defiantly interested in talking to you after your hunt.

One of my best friends has had that hunt several times and they always come back with tags filled. They see a lot of elk but hard to find the big boys that time of year. On that note- you will survive in a trailer (that's what by buddy does) but its going to be really cold and the weather is really unpredictable. Could be clear or dumping snow. There are several little towns in the unit you could rent a room and be back into your hunting area in no time.

The draw considers 1st and 2nd choice on the first pass. If you put in for a high demand hunt like unit 23 early archery as first choice, its not that remarkable to draw unit 1 as your second choice, but very fortunate. I'd be stoked with an early archery tag in any unit in AZ.
