Want to thank AZG&F

I want to thank AZGF for having a policy in place that a parent can transfer a tag to their child as long as they are a minor.

This year my wife and I talked, and she decided to cash in her 13 elk points so that our son (17 yrs old) could hunt the tag.

She drew Early Archery 3A-3C and now my son will be archery hunting in Sept.

Gonna be a little tough because he will be playing football during that time, and we are gonna have to try to do it in a couple long weekends. Just starting to research the unit.
Zach has been my hunting buddy since he could walk and has been hunting since he was 8yrs old. Just took up a bow 2 years ago, and got his first bow kill last year, a muley buck.
This is his ML bull he got about 10 miles from our house last year.

Congrats! I had the early rifle there in 2011. I don't think it will be too tough for you guys based on what I've read the past few years. I was real selective and must have passed about 100 Bulls until the last day and shot a low 300 Bull. There are real big ones out there and I think it's a better archery hunt over the early rifle.

Love hearing that. We are pretty excited. Hope to get out and scout this summer.

I would contact burnt timber outfitters. They live in the unit, they are real awesome with kids, will give you a smoking deal for taking a youth, call them and see what you can work out. Will be well worth a little money if you have limited time.

Thanks Tooele, we enjoy DIY, for better or worse.

Myself being a NR with 13 points that applied for 3A/3C archery and didn't draw I don't think it's a very good deal. Nothing wrong with youth hunters paying their dues as well. Maybe I'm just jealous. Good luck on a great tag.

I dont make the rules, but, I do play by them. Thanks for your good wishes.

Good luck! Should be an awesome hunt. My nephew also drew that this year, hoping to be able to go along for a few days if my luck in the drawings isn't so good. I will look forward to hear how you and your son do, as my son will try for that one next year when he is done with his stint in the USMC(he now has 13 points), I think it is nice to be able to donate your points, one of my hunting buddies dad is to old and sick to go any more and he has 21 point for elk in CO and will see them wasted, it would be great if he could donate them to someone, Enjoy the time with your son, they grow up and you will miss it!

Ha, you had me going. He has killed some very nice animals already. Best hunting buddy I will ever have. After next year when he is out of High School, gonna really miss hunting with him as much as I have.

That's a great story, I have to ask did your wife put in all these years thinking she would hunt, or just so she good give the tag to her son?

Ha ha, that's pretty funny. If you think about it, Zach would have been 4 years old when she started building if that was our strategy.
I hoped, but, I could not be sure Zach, (my youngest son) would be into hunting almost as much as me. My oldest son, son prefers bird hunting, if any hunting at all, God help him.

My wife has had quite a hunting career in her own right. She is no where near as passionate as I am, but, she has killed some top quality animals on public land DIY. She is a little less excited about hiking in a couple miles in the dark and being cold so it was a little easier for her to give up her points. Also, she is not an Archery hunter, and 13 points would not get her a quality hunt in AZ compared to where we live.
Applying in AZ is an expensive prospect. The only thing that kept us going all those years was the minute chance we would draw at less than 1% odds. We saw this as a way to get her off the squirrel wheel of spending money in AZ every year in the tune of a couple hundred bucks. She has a pile of deer points and she will hunt that tag in the next few years. And then I think she is done applying in AZ.

No, it was not our strategy 13 years ago for her to build points for Zach. Did not even know of that policy until a few years ago. :)

Don't be a homo do you really know how many parents do this I asked a question and your mouth had too respond I didn't ask you

NMPaul - Thanks for explaining something that is nobody's business but your own. Hope your wife and son each tag the animal of their dreams.
