Isthe license fee refunded if you fail to draw or do you have to pay the $160 as a non-resident regardless of draw success?

LAST EDITED ON Apr-25-15 AT 07:55PM (MST)[p]No refunds on the licsence. That started 3-4 years ago I think. But I drew a early unit 10 rifle bull tag so its worth it.......BULL!

Thanks for the replies. My goal is a little less ambitious. I'm thinking of trying for a coues deer. I suppose that if I don't get drawn, I could try to get a leftover tag and then not waste the $160 or the bonus point.

Or save the money you would spend on a crappy tag and hunt and build up the points you need for the hunt you want. If you are going to hunt out of state you should do a little research. It generally is not an instant gratification game. Decide what type of hunt you want and then see what it will take to get it, going to the state just because you have a license is not a good strategy. You will pay the same amount for the crappy hunt as you would for the hunt that you wanted. Look at building the bonus points as a yearly tax, you don't have to like it but it is only $160.

I thought that a leftover tag doesn't burn your bonus points. Maybe I'm wrong.

I know the hunt I want. It generally takes 2 bonus points for the coues hunt I hope to draw. If I don't draw that I figured I could buy a leftover for one of the earlier coues hunt in the unit and get to know the unit while hunting on a no doubt less than desirable tag without burning my point.

You are correct. If you don't draw in the general draw you can apply for a leftover tag in the leftover draw. If there are any tags leftover after that draw you can buy them from any G&F ofice. You do not loose your Bonuse Point if you draw a leftover tag. Almost 100% of the leftover tags are in Southern Az. Don't let that discourage you. There are still plenty of Deer killed during these hunts!

Thanks for the response Bigbrowns. I'm looking forward to trying my luck. Never hunted a coues deer before and it looks like a whole lot of fun.

When does your game department come out with the deer draw info? Right now they only have the online booklet for last year.
