need Az 13B advice

A couple years ago I moved to Az from WI to get out of the cold. I've been an avid hunter all my life, but my ability to sit in an oak tree waiting for a whitetail doesn't do me a lot of good here. I'm not a kid anymore (58) and have been learning what I can about elk, javelina, and mule deer hunting from the internet and talking to people at work. I'm a RN, so most of the people I work with are women and don't happen to be big hunters, though a few are. Now, just to irritate most of you members, I put 13B down for my first choice on this year's application and got drawn with 1 bonus point. Almost embarrassed to say that. I understand perfectly well that this is the hunt of a lifetime, but in the financial situation I'm in, I can't afford a guide. I have taken a couple scouting trips and plan a few more. The overwhelming impression of the area is that it is so VAST! It's hard for me to figure out where to start! I've taken off of work for the entire November season, and will arrive there Tuesday prior to the opener and stay as long as I need to. I have this tag that people dream of and don't want to mess it up. Can someone get me pointed in the right direction? Thanks. Andy.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-19-15 AT 02:13PM (MST)[p]Good luck getting info! I had the archery tag and getting info was near impossible. If you can't afford a guide at least do a scouting package with an outfitter. 13b is roughly 140 miles long and 50 miles wide. I'll guarantee you, you will have saved yourself money by booking or buying a scouting package. I did a scouting package with Chads guide service.

Here is my 2015 archery buck! Good luck.

Great buck ruthunter! I agree, at the least get a scouting package. A good scouting package will get you in a location where some bucks hang and you might be able to have a crack at one on the hunt. I hope you tag a big one, good luck on the hunt!!

In my 27 years of experience on 13b , it doesn't matter where you're gonna be, there are Deer there . Whether the area holds Higher/Lower concentrations of Deer is the question . Anybody can point you in the direction where there will be Deer/Bucks.
My advice is pick a specific region or 2 . Where it be Mt Dellanbaugh and Twin Points regions , or Tweeds Point and Shoe Buckle Regions , Segmiller Mt and Main Street Valley region , pick 2 regions that are adjacent to each other and just be persistent and dedicated to those areas , find the water sources and glass ! You'll come out successful.

There is no bad place on the strip, just more deer in others!!!I have hunted it all and every spot has a stroker buck, just got to find him.Down by the lake ,up in the pines or out in the desert, you will find deer.Have good glass and a good spotting scope, and use them!!!!!!
