I've got a week in December and thinking of doing an archery deer hunt in AZ. Don't know the area so thinking of getting a guide.

I know January is the optimum time to hunt during the rut, so I may see fewer deer, but that's not an option for me.

Suggestions welcome, thanks!

Coues or Muley? What part of the state or unit? There are a few guides I could recommend but they all specialize in certain units.

Desert muleys in the bottom third of the state. Not tied to any particular units, just want to get some good stalks in. Most press I've read has said 41 is the best, but low densities.

150-170 class bucks are fine with me, probably wouldn't kill anything too much smaller (although I love big 3x3's) but don't expect a giant.

Got a week of vacation I have to burn before the end of the year and enjoy bow hunting mulies and you cant' beat the desert climate in winter. I spent 2 months for work out in Tempe in 2002 and had a great time hunting ducks on the lakes, chasing down quail in the desert and some feed lot dove shoots. Kinda wish they'd kept the Tosco offices out there instead of moving everything to Houston.

I think 40A & B would be better choices than 41. The Scott brothers used to be the best down there and any of the low desert units, including 41, but I haven't really been following the low desert too much the last few years. Southwest Hunting Adventures 928-859-4939
