Hi guys Iam a nonres drew 10 archery in 05 I now have 13 points thinking of trying to burn them thoughts on a unit like 7 west for Quality and quantity of bulls thanks for reading Mike

Plenty of QUALITY in this choice and with the New draw system in place, this unit and the BEST can now be drawn in AZ.with less than MAX b.p.Good Luck ...Bruce & SilverGrand

Sorry I am usually more up to speed did something change to where nonres have a chance at the more sought after units for deer and elk with out max points.like strip tags. Thanks again Mike

The increase to 175 tags last year made the hunt much less desirable...was disappointed to see it stayed the same for 16.

If I understand correctly, prior to 2016, all non-res tags for a particular unit could go, and likely went in the Bonus Pass, which meant only those with the highest priority points were drawn.

For 2016, only 5% of the non-res tags go in the BP, leaving the remaining 5% to go in the 1-2 pass. The non-res cap is still 10%. The trade-of is there COULD be fewer non-res tags given, but ANYONE, regardless of the number of points, could be drawn.

The 4-6, 11 units didn't fill in the Bonus pass. For 2016 the Bonus pass is "up to" 5% so there will be hunts that have more than 5% in the 1-2 Pass; some, but not all of those 4-6, 11 hunts.

Tag increases have really hurt 7W both archery and rifle.
It hunts very small and crowded with 175 archery tags IMO. Was a great hunt with 100 tags.

I had the hunt in 2015, early archery. I can say that there are quality bulls in the unit. We scouted hard and had a few great bulls picked out. Most of the area we hunted were devoid of other hunters and we were on bulls every day. hiked 9-14 miles each day. Did not see another hunter where we were hunting in elk for 8 days. Met many hunters in Flag and Phx that were complaining about not seeing or hearing elk.
One of the best hunts I have ever been on. Lots of vocal bulls and areas to get away from people if you are willing to hunt hard.

I had the 2015 tag, over all the elk were very quiet in most the unit. I had a heard talking all day long in one area. The kill % has dropped the last few years. It's still a good hunt I'm hoping its just been a few bad years and will return to what it was.
