7 east peaks cow elk?

Howdy all,

My bro in law put in for this cow hunt (mid October w/rifle) as an AZ resident and should draw the tag. This will be his first hunt, so I'm trying to gather info now before he starts scouting. I know this is a roadless area. Is there a best place to access? How are the cow elk numbers in there? We are planning on either backpacking in there and/or using mountain bikes. Any good places to set up a spike camp?

Any and all info and comments welcome.

If I had that tag I'd park a rig at the 1st tank u get to along fredlin prairie road and then drive up to Snowbowl, hike up to the ski patrol shack and drop off into south side...
I see a grip of rubs when I ski that country and am fairly certain that if you were to position yourself above the burn above fredlin prarie before daylight you would kill 1st light

I'm headed to the peaks tomorrow to help my bro in law on his first hunt. If anyone has seen some cow elk in the peaks lately, give me a shout! Hopefully we'll have some good pics to share this weekend.

We had a tough/fun hunt. We didn't see a single elk in the first 70 miles of hiking/hunting, but finally found a group of cows today at 5pm.

My bro in law was stoked!
