My Dad and I were able to get this bull tag after seven years of trying.

If anybody has hunted this hunt in the past few years, I would love to hear from you by PM or other.

Thanks,

did you draw with 7 points? Resident or Non? I was in for that tag with 7 NR points and didn't draw...just curious. Good Luck!!

LAST EDITED ON Apr-18-16 AT 04:19PM (MST)[p]We had 7 points before applying, but I am not sure if the extra point for applying is added before or after the draw? Depending on how it works, we had 7 or 8 points.

We are non-residents.

Congrats on drawing a great Az. tag!!! I will be hunting that area during the Sept. archery hunt, my wife drew the tag after 7 years as a resident. PM me if you have any questions about the unit? My family homesteaded in that unit. I grew up in that part of the state!!!

That's awesome that your wife drew that tag. With your local knowledge and the reputation for big bulls in the area, you guys should be in for a great hunt.

I have studied GE a fair amount, but I would also like to study some paper maps before I ask too many questions. I just wish they would hurry up and get here!

I will definitely be in touch.

Thanks,

I guess 7 just wasn't my lucky number, I'll be back after that tag or one similar in a couple years. I'll be going to CO unit 40 for elk next year and then burning points on a unit 45 elk tag in Wyoming the following year. Sure wish I was in your boat hunting 27 this year...hopefully I draw a tag in NM or Nevada (steep odds especially in NV) or I'll be cashing 6 points for antelope in WY this year. Congrats on drawing two great tags and good luck to both of you this fall! don't forget to post some pics!!

Definitely some big bulls and lots of rough country. Bring some good glasses when you come out. Lots of canyons to glass. It is a fun hunt for sure.

Prepare to deal with a crazy amount of other hunters up there. That's the only bad thing about that hunt is the number of tags. Get away from the people and you'll do well. Lots of the big Bulls are in some nasty nasty canyons so be prepared for a packout

Well I got "dumb lucky" again and this time got drawn for Arizona Unit 27 (Apache-Sitgreaves NF, Blue Range), which is supposed to be a very good unit for large elk. Dates are 16-29 Sept. Do any of you have experience in this unit, words of advice, best areas, etc? It is a big area.

I thought I would freshen up this post, as I have not heard from anybody that had this late rifle hunt in the last year or two. Surely somebody has had this hunt recently??

It will be a one and done for me in this unit, so I really want to make the most of this hunt.

If you are so obliged, it would be awesome to hear from you.

I've never had the tag, but a good friend with tons of elk hunting experience and dozens of bulls under his belt had this tag last year. He killed a bull that scored a bit north of 330 and told me it was a very tough hunt. He was glad to get the bull he shot.
