5B Archery Antelope

I have drawn the non-resident 5B Archery Antelope tag. I have maps ordered and am trying to reach the local Biologist now.

Can anyone offer any advise or suggestions on hunting this unit. I have only hunted Antelope one time before, but hunt out west fairly regularly, mostly DIY.

One thing that I am curious about is the option to blind hunt over water, or if I will only be able to spot and stalk.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm at 18 points in AZ for pronghorn and the archery hunts are attractive to me, but what scares me is the monsoonal rainfall that AZ can receive before or during the archery hunts. In some years during July and August the Rim and the areas of unit 10 can get pummeled with rainfall. After a couple solid storms there's water everywhere and hunting water doesn't look like it'd be productive. Hopefully others will chime in with some better experience and insight because I'd love to hear it so I can do a better job of trying to burn my points!

Hey Turk- that's the very hunt I applied for this yr but no luck with 8pts even as a resident. How many did you have? Just curious.
Anyhow, I spend a lot of time up in that unit. Over the last few years ive noticed a lot of lopes hanging out in the wooded "transition" areas. I actually drew back twice last year on a nice lope buck (without arrow knocked of course)at 15yds during the archery deer hunt. I see them a lot in the meadows kinda hanging with elk which is kinda odd. Long Lake is bone dry but lots of the water tanks in the area are doing well. I would say if youre going to hunt the more open flats then a blind over water would be best or hunt the transition areas using spot and stalk. What state are you coming from?

Thanks, SpotnstalkAZ.
I think that I had 10 points. I would have to check to be sure. I am sure that I was very lucky to get this tag. I live in WV. It is about 30 hour drive!
Hopefully the rains do not hit too hard. If they do I will just have to cover more ground and work on my stalking skills!

I have had this tag two times and my daughter had a rifle tag. I was into antelope all the time but never closed the deal. I was doing spot and stalk in transition areas.

I do not mind helping a fellow hunter. call me and I can cut your learning curve drastically.
