Kaibab Archery Deer

Curious if anyone has tried the wifi at Jacob's Lake Inn restaurant. I likely drew a Kaibab archery and can extend my hunt if I can find some wifi in the area so I can enter data for my job. Also considering bringing my wife for the first 4-5 days. Curious how she might like that area. Curious what they charge a night there, but I'd be camping after she left.

It was working when I stayed there a couple years ago. If your not staying there driving into Kanab would be an option and find something down there.
Give them a call.

Here's the website:

Have 4G cell at the lodge - hunter that was with me last fall stayed @ lodge & did a lot of work online, mostly e-mail. Nice place, great cafe/restaurant, food & bakery. My wife loves to camp on the Kaibab & shop at Jacob Lake. Never stayed at the lodge though, but you can see their rooms & rates at the website - from rustic to modern accommodations.

When my dad drew the tag a few years ago, we stayed at the lodge because my mom and my wife came along. It was fine. Had WIFI.

For the archery hunt, you could basically hunt right from the lodge. Good hunting very close to that area.

Don't know anything about the WiFi but I have stayed with my wife in their cabins a couple of short visits and we enjoyed them. No doubt on the rustic side, but after all you are in a more remote area.

As to the restaurant and bakery, fantastic! Best pancakes I have ever had for breakfast. I know pancakes are no big deal, but that is the point, I have never had pancakes where I thought they were good or thought I would want to make sure to try them again. I know whenever I have the opportunity to have breakfast there again I will have pancakes!

The bakery is exceptional. You wife will love it!

LAST EDITED ON Jul-16-16 AT 04:45PM (MST)[p]Pretty much certain this is my tag now. Just checked HT and the random odds for my 1st choice are going to be only ~ 1 in 500, so I'm gearing up my schedule plans counting on it being the Kaibab tag. My wife & her daughter will return to China August 22nd so I'll drive out that morning for hunt to begin August 24th until the end of season Sept. 8th. So I'll get in 16 days hunting.

Will drive up to Montana for an archery elk hunt afterwards.

I finally got my wedding reception/US hosting done and drove out here. Parked at the lodge today since it's raining all day. There's no wifi unless you are a hotel guest. However, after digging I found my iphone has a wifi hotspot feature that is allowing me to work quite well so far without taxing my data too much. The cell signal seems to go in and out inside the lodge, but is good outside.

Seeing quite a few hunters stop by here todaay. I have not bow hunted mule deer in this type habitat. Got a pretty good area, but wondering about strategy. I'm curious if it's best to set up on the bottoms of the draws near the water tanks, or try something else considering all this rain.

Thanks so much to fellow MMer Dan (rockymtnhunter) & his wife, Mary for meeting up and giving me a grand tour of the upper Kaibab plateau! It helped me get a great feel for the habitat and how to hunt it. Most effective method for me was using my climbing treestand between bedding and feeding areas, primarily the burn fringes. Some on a water hole but no big ones showed there, even at night. I was onto deer in bow range daily. Got close to arrowing a 180 type buck but he would not come closer than 60 yards. Walked up on one toad at 3 PM on a windy day while walking to my stand. Ended up taking a 3x4 in the last 10 minutes of my hunt. Overall a very good hunt, and with my knowledge should be a great one next time, if I can draw it again. Glad to have the hunters ed & loyalty points in my pocket now.
