Hey guys. I am more excited to see that my daughter has drawn her first tag than I would be if I had a tag of my own. Shes watched me hunt hard for her whole life and now its her turn.

I know nothing about AZ or Unit 27. I applied there because AZ has the lowest age a kid can hunt big game. I am definatly not asking for an X on a map or a honey hole but if anyone wants to share some info about this area and where we can camp or what kind of hunt to expect I would be greatful and also willing to trade info on Utah and Nevada. Thank you!

Hopefully someone here can help you and your daughter. I camp and fish there every summer but I have never hunted deer there. I don't see a lot of deer in the unit but I'm really not looking for them either. You can camp pretty much anywhere you want as the unit is nearly all public land. I will say unit 27 is one of if not the most physical demanding hunts in the state. Lots of big canyons and draws. The Wallow fire has made it easier to see but all that old fallen stuff is very hard to walk in.

Good Luck!

You will need the Apache Sitgreaves national forest map. My son had this tag about 8 years ago, when he was ten. We saw plenty of deer in the southern portion of the unit. We hunted one day and he had his buck, a small whitetail forked horn, on the afternoon of the first day. We hunted east of Hwy 191 and north of Juan Miller Rd. We still hunted in the morning and saw deer but not shots. in the afternoon we sat water and had a couple bucks come in at last light. What part of Utah do you have knowlege of? I have a muzzle loader buck hunt this year near panguitch lake.

Thank you guys. Since this is her first tag were not going to be super picky about size although I would love to see her kill a giant. How are the deer #s? Will she get to see a lot of animals? I'm based out of slc county but I know the majority of the state. I would be more than happy to help you in any way I can. Abe

LAST EDITED ON Sep-06-16 AT 00:00AM (MST)[p]Just wanted to bump this back up with a few questions.

1. Do you recommend drag the camper down or are there hotels near by?

2, is there much ATV access? Ideally a few trails to get us up high then walking.

3, What weather and Temps during the 2nd week of October? I have clothing for everything but my 11 year old grows out of things so fast that I only buy what's needed.

4, Have you or anyone you know been in the area this year and if so how hard is it to find a mature muley or Coues?
