Thought I would share some photos of the buck that my hunter Mike Barats took on opening day at 0630 in Unit 10.
I had been watching this buck for almost a month after my good friend Jay Chan found him while scouting for elk!
Couldn't believe that no one else was watching him.
On Thursday night, just before sundown, this buck, that I call Mr. Big, got into a fight with another big buck. At first they locked up their horns, then the other buck slide his horns down onto Mr. Big's neck. I thought he killed him.
At one point Mr. Big was on his back, legs up but folded, and the other buck actually was dragging him around.
Finally, somehow, someway, Mr. Big escaped. We watched him gather 3 does and bed down next to a fence line.
Next morning at 5 a.m. we were out there in the dark with our black cow decoy waiting for them to stand up.
At 06:30 Mike took a shot at 325 yards with his 270 Weatherby Magnum shooting 140 grain Nosler Accubonds at 3145 fps, and Mr. Big took a dirt nap.
Look are the carnage that was done to Mr. Big and his cape. It was ruined!
It was so nice to have a hunter who could shoot! Made all of the time on those hot days out there well worth worth it!
Tall and carrying the mass all the way to top with decent prongs, we think Mr. Big will easily make the Big Book!
