LAST EDITED ON Dec-01-16 AT 10:17PM (MST)[p]Things either have really changed in 8, or we had an abnormal experience. It was a real tough hunt this time around, so I count myself very lucky to have taken a bull at all. Look for the whole story of our hunt on Blank's HAC thread.

In the meantime, enjoy the bull!

NICE bull, Lisa!

You're right, it was a tough hunt. Had 4 vets on the same hunt with Arizona Elk Society's Hunts for Heroes program (I'm now a coordinator)...

We saw your camp, wanted to stop in and say thanks for all you do, but you guys were out huntin! How did your group fare?

Lisa:

Sorry we missed each other (still haven't met face-to-face, darn it!).

Our camp tagged out on 4 bulls (3 were vet hunters), 'tho none as big as yours ;-). Was within a second of getting a fourth, but so be it. We (the vet I was with) glassed up several GOOD bulls, but they either dropped off into canyons or stayed in thick cedars (sound familiar?).

BTW, we had 18 vets hunting bulls across the state that week. ALL had a great time!

P.S. I've got a couple of pics but having trouble posting them to this thread (anyone care to help out?) ...

Great bull! I'll tell you what, you might have had what you thought was a tougher than usual hunt, but in reality you kicked butt!

Growing up in Williams, 8 was always my favorite unit. Just about anything you want to hunt is found in that unit. Now, I hate unit 8! The unit, in my opinion has gone downhill years ago. There's still stuff to be found in there, as you proved, but I always stress to folks, there are better units in the area.

Congrats! A great late season bull like that is hard enough to find, let alone in unit 8!

Wow, I feel much better then! I agree, it was a far cry from even 2 years ago when one in our party last spent time there.

Still love going, but I'm guessing success rate this year will be in the teens.
