I'm in the Army and stationed at Ft. Huachuca. Being from the mid-west hunting in the high country is new to me. My buddy is planning a trip out in the fall for a bear hunt. We are open to any area really, but thought Unit 27 was the best choice. I plan on doing a few scouting trips before the hunt. Just looking for any information about some good starting points. Also any "local" bear hunting tricks or tips would be much appreciated as well.

Thank you for your service. I work for the Forest Service, and used to be stationed in Alpine, AZ. Unit 27 is a good bet for bear. Personally, I would be targeting areas south of Hannagan Meadows where you have mast crops such as acorns and even prickly pears when they are in season. It will take a lot of miles and glassing. Best of luck to you.

Thanks a bunch. I'm going to make it up there a few times before the fall hunt to do some scouting. I've been doing the spring season down here in unit 35A and haven't had any luck. But I ran into a Forest Service employee last weekend while out and she gave me a few spots to check out, so hopefully that puts me on some sign. Thanks again.
