Unit 9 late rifle

I hear a tough hunt,just wanted to get some other opinions.

I hunted unit 9 late archery last year and it was tough. Just pray its hot and dry. If it is, then check water and you'll find them.

Tough hunt for sure with very limited glassing. Locate bulls a few weeks early and they should be nearby opening day. Hunt that area hard and you will likely find them. Good luck!

This hunt can be good if it is warm and dry or if there is snow. Absent these two conditions, it's generally a tough hunt, not worth burning many points on. Feel free to PM me if you'd like to discuss some specific areas to hunt.

I helped a friend in 9 a few years ago--- very hard tough hunt mainly because of very limited glassing-- very flat. It was the late hunt. Be prepared too for cold weather, snow, can get very cold there. The elk/bulls can be anywhere, but the far eastern part of the unit seemed the best for bulls, along the Rim. Best of luck on your hunt if you go. Late elk hunts in Az are notorious for being tough-- high hunter numbers, quiet bulls, spooky elk, bad weather too. I would consider punting on this one. Depends on what you want to kill in my opinion. I hunted the late riffle last year and could have shot a bull most days. They are there if you are willing to put in the effort.
