Resident deer help needed

Howdy All,

My bro in law is an AZ resident and is looking to get a deer tag. I took him into the Peaks last year on his first hunt for cow elk and we were lucky enough to be successful. Now he's hooked!

Here's my ask. What units should I have him apply in with 0 points for a rifle buck deer hunt? He'd be happy with any legal buck. Preferably in an area where he could see lots of deer each day.

Any and all suggestions will be welcome!

Thanks,

If he wants to have a high chance of getting drawn, he needs to apply for the less desirable units, just based on draw odds, look at page 44 of the regulations. (On my side of the state, 16a, 18a, 18b, 20c all have high draw odds, but do have lower deer densities.) In any of these units though, if he is taught how to glass well and/or is willing to hike in a ways and gets to be just decent at glassing, he should see deer every day. The only people I know that don't see deer every day are the ones that just road hunt, which is illegal anyway. Hike to a hill and glass, repeat, name of the game on early hunts. Other option is to just hike 15 miles a day and hope the buck stops where you can still see him when you spook him out of his bed:)
