Anyone ever bow hunt 16a for mulies. I'll be doing the otc early hunt in 18b and I realized the hualapais are right next door. All the research I have done had shown me the unit kinda blows. Or at least it was once good but sucks now. U think it would be descent considering 18 is tight across the highway and deer would migrate to the mountains in the summer for cooler temps and more water. I'm going scouting 18b in July so it's gonna be a scorcher so I might as well take the side by side up a road through the hualapais in 16a and see of anything pops up. Any body have info or hunted it before?

16a is not what it was 30 years ago by any stretch. The deer don't migrate per se and it is a lot further between the two than it looks on a map. Those deer in 18b have no reason to leave as there is plenty of water and cool enough temps. The hualapais only have a relatively small area that is higher and cooler than the top of 18b. Game and Fish have been spending some money trying to revive the deer herd but it's not back yet.

Used to hunt 16a for deer & Javelina quite a bit. I don't even waste my time in that unit anymore!! Deer numbers are way down, don't know if its from predators or poachers. Look at tag numbers in the last 5 years fish & game are issuing less every year. I would'nt even waste my time in the Hualapais it is rough & rugged terrain that doesn't produce deer!
