Last year, I flew into Arizona all the way from Alabama. This was my first time to ever chase Mule Deer or western game in general. I focused on the southern part of Unit 22 near the Roosevelt Lake area from January 7th-13th. I loved the experience and enjoyed trying something new. Along with the majority of people with an OTC tag, I was unsuccessful but I put on a few good stalks. Saw plenty of does but didn't see many bucks and felt like I was a week late to the rut. On a positive note, my tag is still valid through the end of the year and I am going to try my luck again in December further North in Unit 22. Using Google Earth, I am interested in the Payson/East Verde River/White Hills area. I would greatly appreciate it if any of you more experienced western hunters could help me out (i.e. elevations, Pines vs. Open Desert, etc.). Please feel free to shoot me a PM.
