Hi Guys,
A good friend of mine got lucky and drew 15D desert BH and needs some help with finding an outfitter who knows and hunts unit 15D. Any recommendations about the unit or names of outfitters I can forward to him would be great. Thanks a bunch

Mister Twister:

I can assist on that sheep hunt in Unit 15D.

We've taken some super rams here is the past.

Guaranteed you won't find a more reasonably priced hunt and we'll hunt for the 31 day hunt if needed.

Send me a email at [email protected] and I'll send you a lot of photos from sheep we've taken there in the past.

P.S. Thanks for recommendations guys!

Congrats to your friend on his fortunate draw. Do you know how many bonus points he had and if 15D was his 1st choice unit on his application this year?

Don, two years ago, reports of pneumonia in sheep there. My buds ram tested positive. i looked and nothing seems to be reported online in a year. I guess it wasn't too bad? What do you think?

Elmer, the pneumonia is real!

Looks like the big old rams got hit. We saw 136 rams last year, but did not see any of the 170+ rams that this unit should have in it.

WE did see and hear rams coughing last year on the hunt.

My hunter, Andy almost shot one old ram caused he was sick and he wanted to put him out of his misery.

This is that ram.

This ram was with the one above and was also coughing.

Things will be good (162+ which is Arizona book)in this unit for the next 3-4 years, but then a lot of the older rams will be gone and they are not getting much if any lambs surviving.

Full disclosure here: I am a personal friend and associate of Don Martin of Arizona Wildlife Outfitters. We have hunted and fished together for years and we are both Chief Hunter Education Instructors for the AZGFD.

I do not often recommend outfitters and guides on MM, I have done it a few times over the many years I have visited here, but I don't make a habit of it. That said, I have been applying since my 20's for DBS tag in AZ and a few other states. I have never drawn, and 60 is my next significant milestone birthday. When I do, Don will be in camp with me.

If your friend wants to kill the sheep he explains he is after, the one that fills his mind's-eye when he dreams of Nelson Desert Sheep in AZ GMU 15D, he could do no better than Don Martin. He'll get all 31 days if needed, every effort from Don and his staff, he'll eat good and have a comfortable place to lay his head every night, and...he will be cautioned before squeezing the trigger on just what he has in his crosshairs before sending a bullet downrange at the sheep of his dreams.

Good luck to a another guy who "got my tag!"
I look forward to seeing his beautiful sheep's photos.

I would definitely go with Craig Steele with exclusive pursuit. That guy will outwork anyone. Plus he lives right there in kingman, AZ. Good luck

I can tell you that I spoke with him and he was ALL "rah-rah" at the time, (he was from New York) but in the end, he quit calling, so I know he went with someone else!

Oh well...

FYI, for those that care about statistics and/or records, I don't believe there has been any OUTFITTER OR GUIDE who has taken better sheep that we have on the past TWO general hunts in 2015 and 2016 in Unit 15D!

There are a number of good sheep guides who operate in northwest Arizona and specialize in Unit 15D.

I have never said I'm the BEST or work HARDER than anyone else who is in the business, but these pictures show what we've done in the past.

AND I might add, I know I'm the least expensive of ANY outfitters/guides that offer hunts there. Plus I offer full 31 day hunts if necessary to make sure the hunter gets the ram he wants!

Yes. Very nice very ram! Tell your bud congrats. I'm pretty sure I know pretty close where the picture was taken from hiking around with my bud a couple of years earlier when he had that tag.
