My OTC Kofa Hunt

Well after 8 or so years of wanting to try hunting the Kofas for OTC I finally went a did it. Many months of reading, lots of online research, phone calls and a little help from a person or two from MM.COM I made the trip. The mountains are amazingly beautiful, the sunsets and sunrises are amazing peaceful. I really enjoyed everything about the trip. Except one thing! 5 days not a dang deer!!! Not one doe, not one buck!!!

We covered many miles, got to high points and glassed all day. Dark to dark we hunted. Glassed morning and night and walked the washes in the middle of the day. We used a high end Spotting scope, 2 sets of 20x56?s and 10x42?s. I felt like we were learning something walking the washes, and looking for tracks and beds. I had luck seeing year old sheds (which I did not pick up because you can't in KWA) but still not deer.
The one thing we did see was pronghorn. Apparently there are only a few of them in the Kofas but we were able to find them. Only seen 1 other hunter, we chatted with him for a bit as he was setting up camp. The funny thing was he backed up and left after we told him how we had done. He seemed like he knew the area well. Not sure why he left....LOL

Many years of successful mule deer hunts in many other states. I don't think I have ever hunted and not seen a doe a day and or a buck a trip. Props to you hunters out there who get it done on the OTC hunts and kill bucks in the Kofas!!!!!

All that being said I will try it again next year! Anyone who knows the Kofas and would like to know where we hunted PM me, I would like to know if we were in a bad area or a area that has been good in the past.

Did You find any Bighorn sheep? I was on a Sheep hunt there bout 20 years ago helping a buddy and saw a herd of 10-12 mules with a descent buck. Cant remenber but think we saw a few small groups too. Beautiful Desert......BULL!
