Unit 1 elk

My 16 year old daughter drew her first Elk tag. Late hunt in unit 1. Trying to get some general info as to what kind of hunt she should expect.I have had several NM tags in the area. She is not a hard hunter. We will likely only go a mile or 2 from the roads. She is capable of shooting 400 yds. Any words of advice?
