Thinking about applying for next years Camp Navajo Elk. Would appreciate any info and issues with this hunt for those hunting this year.

What was your overall experience of either archery, rifle or ML Elk hunt? Especially for NR application and draw.

The guy who administers and manages the hunt lives across the street from my friend in Williams. We got to meet him and talk quite a bit last Fall when we hunted elk in 8 last year. I was really surprised to learn of all the opportunities the public has, and how under-utilized it is. I would recommend calling and talking to them in the office for the straight scoop. I believe it could be a sleeper.

They have military only tags, wounded warrior tags, and civilian tags is my understanding. I'm just trying to figure out how many bonus pts it takes for a military only bow tag.

I've hunted Camp Navajo as a civilian several times.

Unless you're an archer, and active duty or national guard, you can't get inside the "good area" where by far the most elk, and bigger bulls are.

Just saying..

Resurrecting my old post...

I didn’t put in for 2018 CN, but did draw the tag this year. Pulled an archery cow tag, freezer filler I hope.

I’m retired military w a clearance, so i should be able to access the limited area. Just waiting for the camp to reopen after this covid crap is over and they start scheduling the orientation classes again.

Fingers crossed!

Bob

Very cool. Congrats! Always interesting to read about these types of opportunities. It will be fun following along with your adventure.

W/the NG, I had 5 trips to Navaho. 4 summer-camps up there...an excellent place to go in July and August from Yuma, and Ajo.

I hunted it...many moons ago. If you are hunting w/a rifle, outside of the fence, harder to hunt, but easy enough done.

Inside the fence, the place is corroded w/elk.

Resurrecting yet again. I was lucky enough to draw the latter archery season Mid september. I am active duty and should be able to get inside the fence. Anywhere specific or is it literally that corroded with elk?

How’s ya do?

If I remember right, there were 5 herds in there. I havent been in there since prior to '99. But, when I was drving an M151 around in there, elk were everywhere. Tis very possible, that I've seen more elk in there than in CO.

You will find elk, unless something has killed them off.

Sorry, I was on vacation for the 1st 2.5 weeks of June, then I forgot about this. I thought that I just couldn't answer you on my phone. I can't find that message on my lap-top. What the heck, I know that I've done that before.

Where do I find that PM?
