For you residents how often can you draw and elk tag in your state? I know it probably depends unit. But if you wanted to hunt a unit with reasonable odds what does it take.

It really depends on what unit you put in for and what manner of take. Check out HuntersTrailhead. There is a fee. I'm a resident and have 11 points with no tag. I only apply for archery hunts if that helps

You can get ?lesser tags? for 7 or 8 points.... so wth a loyalty point and hunters ed, you can have a tag in hand every 5 to 6 years... and that's if you are unlucky in the random draws

About every four years for rifle elk. That's after taking hunters safety in AZ for the extra point. But it is a lottery. I know a guy who's drawn four of the past six years. Lucky bugger.

You can draw every year if you are willing to do the worst cow archery hunts:) I will only hunt early archery bull and am willing to hunt the lesser units to get drawn more frequently. There are two kinds of lesser units, high elk density very high hunter density, or very low elk density with low hunter density. Very easy to tell which is which in the regs. Both can make for a very frustrating hunt, but both are still elk hunting. Or maybe its not, if you don't see any elk that day...:)
