Cant catch a break wht mnts elk hunt ruined every day by road hunters and road callers. Had a bull 2 mornings in a row only to have road hunters and road callers mess it up. Headlights lighting up the flats. Guy didnt even turn headlights off before cow calling out the window. Anyone could hear the bugling from miles around no need to drive right into a meadow at first light. Beyond fustrating!!!! Time to leave the pines look for a bull hanging out with the antelope in prarie lands!!!!!

Get further away from the roads......lots of areas up here to do so.

Yes sir thats the plan. I guess its over rated to walk now a days haha! Amazing how it takes some times more then 5 to 10 years to get a tag and still see all kinds of people driving around esp at prime times. Passing forest service road closed signs, road berms, every little trail, fire break!

good advise from above, Hunt terrain where quads & vehicles can't go ... FEW do and MANY elk will, Good Luck

Find where they go when the road hunters spook them and you will be in elk all day.
Been in your shoes more then once.

See tag line.

Thanks guys its been 6 mornings of 4am hikes and lots cream butts running away, minamal bugling. Hopefull one makes a mistake soon!!!

3b theres habitat area but trucks parked along both ends. Good thing is im in bulls every day think give 1 more try do more listening sit ahead of bugles move slower let people keep them talking out their truck windows. Hope for some more rut. Herd bulls just wistling back forth not fighting no grunts no agression no satellites bothing herds.

Got it done today. What a hard hunt not a gaint but awsome experiance with my good friend Murray. Pictures to come. We hiked in 430a got ahead of the road hunters. We could hear an atv coming our way and parade of trucks down below on the main road. There was 3 bulls spread out far apart just bugling to each other. We set up near an escape route. I decided to just pick the middle bugle as he sounded the deepest. Soon cows were running by at first light. Ranged them too far for a shot 108 yards. Moved up quickly after they passed. With no more cover in front of me and murray 50 yards behind me at the tree line. He signaled for a shot but i had big pinion in front of me. The bull walked out he bugled just enough time to range 65 yards. At the shot the bull was not sure of what hit him he ran for the tree line passing broadside at 36 yards. Second shot hit a bit high but was enough to seal the deal!!! Tough still went 300 more yards with 2 arrows in him! Thank you for heavy Vap tko 300s and 125 gr grizz trick 2. Heavy mass old looking 5x6 will post pics later after download. Still lot work to do!!! Thanks to my dad Tom, teenage son Gavin for coming out for the packout and my good friend Murray for another successfull adventure. Nine days of hard work hot weather and poor rut.

Sweet deal glad you was able to put one down.

Everyone wants to get mad at road hunters, but I'm all for road hunters. I want 90% or more of the hunters to stay on the road. That way I won't run into them while I'm hunting.

"Go hunt for meat at Walmart."

I agree that i aint mad at road hunters! Let them stay there, i ll get in the woods a couple miles. Then they can say "no game there this year" and give me a break so i can still get a tag while everyone thinks the spot has dried up.

Seems like most the action i found was near houses or in high traffic areas. I guess buĺls get used to all the atvs, wood cutters, people driving to work, sight seers. I guess it just bothers me that you play point game for years just to get an elk tag then see people ride around all day in a vehical. You would think if you burned 5 plus years of points you would take it more seriously.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-30-18 AT 03:57PM (MST)[p]I am happy there are hunters who prefer to drive around instead of getting out to hunt. Would you rather them all be walking in the woods with you? Not me. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

As far as waiting for a long time to get a tag and how they should use it. It is their tag and they can use it as they wish. Who are we to tell them what to do with it?
