Arizona meat salvage requirements

I could swear at some point I read somewhere that Arizona requires the rib meat to be taken in addition to the normal neck, quarters, backstraps and loins.

All I can find is this which took quite of bit of looking to find, there isn't anything in the hunting regulations book at all on the subject. This is from the actual statutes.

7. A violation of ? 17-309, subsection A , paragraph 5 involving a waste of edible portions other than meat damaged due to the method of taking as follows:

(a) Upland game birds, migratory game birds and wild turkey:  breast.

(b) Deer, elk, pronghorn (antelope), bighorn sheep, bison (buffalo) and peccary (javelina):  hind quarters, front quarters and loins.

To me that sounds like you wouldn't even be required to take the neck meat but I would do that anyway. I wish I could remember where I read or heard that you had to take rib meat in Arizona because I sure can't find anything that says that.

Hopefully I'll be needing to know what to pack out when I fill my Unit 1 late rifle bull tag this year so I want to be sure on this.

Am I confusing Arizona and Alaska? I know Alaska requires rib meat to be taken sometimes and even the bones in some instances.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks, Nathan

I know neck meat is required,I had a friend get a ticket for not taking the neck meat. According to what you posted, it doesnt even sound like you would need to take the neck meat.

I'm not sure what's in the books but I've been with a few people that were checked by G&F after they packed out the animals. It seems like they are looking at the effort and quantity of meat removed and not specifically where the portions come from. If they see that you have 4 quarters and two or three bags, they call it good.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-25-18 AT 10:28AM (MST)[p]The info is in the main regulations booklet, just as you posted. No neck or rib meat required.
