LAST EDITED ON Oct-29-18 AT 04:18PM (MST)[p]Helllo, long time reader but never posted before. I am coming here to ask for some information. I was shocked to find out I drew a 12b late deer tag as a non resident. I am super excited for this hunt and look forward to spending some time in a new area with my dad and brothers. The hunt starts the day after thanksgiving. I have learned this is a migration hunt so I have not scouted yet. I'm looking to head down to the area this weekend and possibly one more weekend befor the hunt starts (6 hr plus drive one way) to start to learn the area and the roads.

The questions I have are what I should expect for road conditions and if there's anything I should be prepared for in that regard? Any areas I should avoid, just want to have an enjoyable scouting and hunting trip don't need issues with getting stuck. How?s the cell service down there? I'm also looking for a place to store my fifth wheel trailer for those few weeks before the hunt. Any advice of a good storage area around page?

This will be my first hunt in Arizona, it's been a long few months waiting since the draw results were posted!

Any help and information I can get for this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Congrats on the draw. That's a tough one due to the low numbers. Great to be able to hunt all of the east side, but deer numbers are significantly lower too. That said, some of those bucks get to be OLD! If it rains a bunch the red roads get greasy nasty.

Don't shy away from the west side either, since you get to hunt the entire unit. A lot of this Pauns bucks will still be held up in the PJ's on the desert floor across from Johnson Canyon, and great bucks can come out of 12A onto the Buckskins any time.

Thanks for the reply?s so far! I'll be sure to take tire chains. Blank, thanks for the tips I'm really excited. I never expected to draw I had 8 points and was I thinking it would take me 20 years so I was shocked. Defiantly looking for an old mature buck. My brother had the muzz pains tag this year and we saw some good ones so I hope they head south. Are the deer migrating into this area daily or are they all there when the hunt starts? I've heard of hunting the state line but I'm not sure if that's the way I want to hunt.

Anymore input is appreciated!

You should have no trouble finding a place to store your trailer in Kanab or Fredonia. There is a trailer park on the west side of Fredonia on Hwy 386.

There are some great bucks on the east side that live there all year long .Not a lot of water so hope it stays dry and hunt around some of the drinkers on that side.Have not been up this year but last year saw a couple 200 plus bucks of the cowboy camp north of the buzzard lookout. We had west tags last year and found good bucks on the Buckskins and off the 22 out around Water canyon.

Thought I would thank those that gave advise before my hunt, it was really helpful. We had a great hunt. I saw more deer and bucks than i could have ever dreamt of. I stopped counting bucks halfway through the hunt and I was around 100. We spent most of our time in the Buckskin mountains. I got my buck on Thursday afternoon after 5 days of hunting. He?s not the biggest we saw but it was time to get home and I'm really happy with him. He?s a 3x4 with a small sticker and eye guards 26 1/2? wide with some mass. Thanks again for the advise.
