Greetings to all this year?s Kaibab hunters.

Congrat's on drawing a tag and good luck! Archery and early rifle hunts have come and gone ? another year in the books. Just wanted to offer my help to late hunt tag holders, if needed. Those who have my followed my MM posts know that I especially like to help anyone who has never hunted the Kaibab before. Just a thought & suggestion. Feel free to PM me if interested. Thanks to all who have let me spend time with them over the years.

Again, good luck to all!

I know You know it well from Your posts. Your offer was Highly appreciated. If I didn;t have an outffitter booked We would be best friends, By now '''LOL . THanks again,,,,,,, BULL!

Hi there! My two sons and I happened to get drawn for the late hunt in 12AE. I know that you mentioned the West side, but do you have any advice for us on the east side? I have bowhunted the Kiabab many times, but that was many years ago. Due to some serious health issues with my wife we were unable to get up there and do any scouting. We are going up there a couple of days before the hunt starts, and are staying up there the entire season. I have lots of experience hunting Coues deer, but I have very little experience hunting mule deer. I have harvested a few, but nothing of any size. Would really like to take a mature buck. Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated! You can email me at [email protected] if you would like. Thanks in advance!

fullcurl74,
Hopefully I'll still be walkin' & talkin' then - I'll keep you in mind.
BTW - I'm still available for this year's late hunt if anyone is interested...if not, guess I'll be duck huntin' and dreaming about next year.

Thanks Dan for showing Steve and I around this year on the early hunt. Your knowledge really helped us to learn the area in a shorter amount of time than it would have had we had to scout the area by ourselves having never been there before. For those that don't know him, he is a great guy an now a good friend.

Thanks Dan
Rich

Dan, I read your 12A&B archery post and saw that you helped a few members get some nice archery bucks. Where you up there for the early rifle hunt? If so what was your opinion of it? My friend has enough point to draw it next year and I will be down there helping him.
Thanks
Bill

Yes, I was there for the early rifle hunt - here?s my 2 cents regarding it?

Hard to find mature bucks during the early rifle hunt this year. Frustrating because I saw many big bucks during the archery hunt, as many as I've ever seen in the past. I've had good success in recent years during the early hunt.

This was a ?wet? year ? lots of standing water & abundant forage. Early/mid Oct snowfall & cold temp?s shook things up and got deer moving. Bucks were harder to find and went into their hiding mode ? why?

IMO the following factors affected the early hunt -- weather (cool/cold temps & early snows); road hunting (i.e. vehicles esp. UTVs) & vehicle activity on every two-track whether ?open? or ?closed? ? this is an issue esp. relevant to the North Kaibab because of high number of roads; bucks were moving to/thru mid-elevation transition zone (oak & locust) areas that are tough to hunt; hunter overcrowding/excessive pressure in some areas such as the ?burn?; and the Jr antlerless hunt (500 tags) 11 days before the hunt rattled the bucks.

I still like the early hunt but my experience this year dropped it down a few notches in my mind.

Sweeeet!! Congrats!!!!

I did it some how He is a 4x4 with 2 extras on the right side. Good mass and just a solid Buck , I am happy as I was sick as a dog and asthma and all. At 62 He is my best buck. Never really had a good Muley tag before. He is mid 180's I was told, I personally haven't taped him yet.....THanks.............BULL!

Thanks Guys, G&F said he was 5 and a half years of age. Most of them they tell You 3-5 years old,,,,,,,,,,,,BULL!

Thanks again to all on here for the props. I didn't do it all myself,Bit the bullet and Hired Duayne Adams and happy I did. What a great place the Kaibab is ,in the late Hunt. Had a Buddy hunt the early hunt with some guys that know the unit and He had a terrible time. He is still cussing about it. The late Hunt is a different Story, never saw so many big bucks in my life.Great place in the cold of Arizona shadowing the Grand Canyon.............BULL!

Just curious but had the deer migrated down to low stuff or were they still up high? My son had the early hunt a few weeks ago and they were all on top and the mid range. Definitely no migration to low country had happened when we were there.

You have had some good hunts since you came back to AZ. Congratulations.

There were some does and fawns up high, but no bucks seen from a hunter who went up there. They were Mid range and low. There are supposed to be critters live low all year But my guess not big bucks. Deer were every where low. Then the Snow came Thurs, Bet they are out of the top now..........BULL!

Awesome buck. What a pig! Cheers to you for hiring Duwayne. If you're going to do it at 62, you might as well do it right.

Congrats

LAST EDITED ON Dec-13-18 AT 07:00AM (MST)[p]>>At 62 He is my best buck. <<

Wow! That's an old deer. ;-)

Congrats on a super trophy.

Duwane gets it done, doesn't he? Spent a few days in his camp up there a couple years ago, and we got snowed on pretty good.
