My lucky charm

LAST EDITED ON Nov-03-10 AT 02:05PM (MST)[p]It has been a successful year for me and my little hunting partner JP! I can not wait till he passes his hunter saftey this comming year to be able to have a chance at getting his own animals because he has earned the right to have his chance.

This bull I got on the reservation and it was me and my sons first overnight backpacking trip together. I was able to call this bull in from about 600 yards to about 40 yards. JP was pumped up about the situation as you can tell by the pics. The pack out was a hard one but the sunset and having JP there with me all the way through was something I will never forget. Enjoy!







Now this bull I got in south central NM. There were bigger bulls to be got but with my little partner standing next to me it was hard to resist shooting this nice 6x6. We called this one in from about 400 yards and he never made a sound but we could see him all the way and we intercepted him and shot him through both lungs with a muzzleloader at about 75 yrds. Nicknamed the "GHOST BULL!" Thanks to my awesome buddy DINO for being there and calling him in!





This a bull I wish I would have been able to shoot!! Not the best picture but he was just out of range and I did not want to take an unethical shot at him! He was HUGE! Next year maybe JP will shoot him!!



I was able to draw a mule deer tag for unit 38 as my 3rd choice and connected on this nice buck! First one with a smokepole! Unfortunately, my boy was not able to come with me so I did a solo trip!

Great job on all those animals! Looks like you and your hunting partner have got it figured out. More importantly, It's awesome that he's getting involved in the outdoors and has an awesome teacher to set him on the right path!

Lionking, that is one of the best posts of the year. I bet that is now one of the best hunting trips you have ever been on.

My top 3 hunting trips of all time are all with my son. Does not get any better than that.

Congrats on your smoke pole deer. It has been tough deer hunting the last couple weeks. We need some weather.

Hey Vini!

Good to hear from you. I have been in and around MM but just have not posted much. My boy has gotten big! he walks the hills with ease, walking at 10,000 ft is not an easy task. As I look at my pics from my last bull, JP was a little runt...and green to boot. Now he is a seasoned veteran and I hope he continues down that path.

Thanks for checking out the post. Yeah I had my little luckycharm with me and it is so great cuz his reaction when we get one down is so priceless.
Any luck for you this year?
I actually found a little honey hole this year and it was great to finally see some major caliber bulls. But with my son standing next to me it is hard to not shoot a 6x6 so close. Glad to hear from you.
