What the Heck????

Just came back from the elk rifle hunt in 23... I seriously have not been so disgusted in hunters of this generation ever. I'm in no way saying all hunters now are like this but the ones that are should be hung from a tree by their thumbs for a couple days. We went through the trouble of hanging cameras a month before the season as many of us do, far from roads ,and DOUBLE LOCKS , just in case . only to get there and find one camera completely missing and the SD card gone from the other . Herds of utvs scouring everything that remotely looks like a road , guess they save money on boots that way. Just the most obnoxious hunt I've ever been on. Maybe I've spent to much time in the wilderness IDK!!

Sadly I too see it going downhill.

I saw rampant ATV use on roads closed to motorized (per NF travel management plan maps). I mentioned it to one gal who was getting ready to drive over a berm onto a closed road "thanks" was her reply, and away she went over the berm.

I called NF to complain about rampant offroad abuse. Maybe I got a lazy worker, but his response was "there's abuse everywhere, not much we can do."

Trash (vast majority is beer cans) scattered all along most roads.

Sad. Hunters are the first conservationists, but we're becoming slobs...

Sorry to hear that , I hate thieves with mad passion...I drew unit 2B and just couldnt go set my cameras because Im afraid of the same thing...

Have some friends down there now and seeing some elk away from roads. She has not filled her tag,but a couple chances got by.
I drove a couple roads some this morn and see atv tracks all over where ever they can go. Went to a place I know, walked 200 yrds from the road and smelled elk.
The usual, folks have just driven them to hiding and elsewhere, while leaving behind tons of trash.I have never seen so much trash there, sickening pigs. Hope they don't come back.

I'm with all of you on this one. I've never seen the elk so spooked , and the landscape so trashed . The thing that stinks is that this was my little sisters first elk hunt . She's 25 not so little , but she was heart broke to see all trash and ATV tracks , and also being a full time mom, she put as much time into this hunt, scouting trips, cameras , etcetera, only for it to be ruined by worthless selfish slobs. She's really upset and said she doesn't ever want to return to that unit. So sad. I will report anyone I catch doing these things. Thank you guys for listening to these gripes .

That's just plain wrong and people are just lazy slobs. I had my first camera taken this year and my blood was boiling. I did get it back but still can't stand it. When you spend your hard earned money on gear, gas and then work to put them out the least people could do is leave them alone.

I agree man , I would even wave or something to the camera ya know. Hunting used to be like a brotherhood, but those days are fading. People have become so self cantered , and basic moral value is almost gone. The day I catch someone messing with another hunters hard work is the day a lesson will be given in respecting other peoples property.

Man that pisses me off to no end. I am so sick of those little biatches trashing our heritage. I pick up trash whenever I see it back in the bush. But this craps gotta stop. We gotta start becoming boisterous. We gotta tell these douche phucks when the screw up. I for one have no problem calling these turds out.

On another note I have the unit 23 deer tag for the nov. 12-16. Wondering if you saw any mule deer. I don't need no directions. Just wanting to know if the numbers are solid. I know how to hunt and I have a great plan but I am wondering if people are seeing any deer.

Very sad indeed my friends. I agree muley , whenever we see these things happening we should stand up and try and get them addressed . I saw a few mule deer and couse. One traditional 23 190" slob , but he left like his butt was on fire. Deer herd is hurting.

It has never been as bad as this year.Reminded me of spots in northern NM,AZ & UT.
I am always in the area.Have not seen one FS vehicle on any of the dirt roads this year .
I have taken to carrying again and have LEO on speed dial along with a camera.

On a good note the lady hunter was on one of the bulls till dark last nite and is out trying again after a sleepless night.

I have the late buck hunt and there are a few decent bucks around, but not like it used to be. Seems to be the same story all over NM for deer.

>I lost three this year in
>my elk unit.... people drive
>me nuts....

That sucks man. I think the ill intent is what gets me really pissed. If anything I think I'd stop and look to see if it was aimed right or something helpful .

Last year in unit 51 a Forrest service member was driving around passing out the maps showing what roads were open and not. Then I see ranchers abusing it. I don't like hating on ranchers that lease forest land for their cattle. They are part of the reason we have so many water tanks out there. But it still pissed me off when I reported him and nothing was done

I don't mess with the ranchers.
They've always been good to me at 51. They watch my camp for me and there were a few nice guys who would always say where they saw elk.

I also had many of them on camera and they would always wave. I know they weren't taking cameras.

I'm with ya...I'm getting really tired of seeing beer cans 2-3 miles from the nearest trail. You're telling me you can carry in a beer of all things that far but can't carry out the empty can? Amazes me how many people don't care enough to keep the Gila clean.

Don't get me started on people abusing the use of ATVs!!

Its alotta work to be that sloppy!!!! My dad even taught me to pick up other peoples trash much less leave my own everywhere

That was a ROUGH hunt. We saw more bears than we did bulls. And we spent a ton of time behind glass. It's sad how many beer cans and water bottles litter the roads there.

I put my big boy boots on and killed this bull waaaaay away from the roads.
