Thought I'd share some of my success from this season. I didn't draw any tags in NM this year, but still managed to have a good season.
I had bought a leftover muzzleloader deer tag and was able to fill my tag opening morning on this little buck. Being how bad my luck is on mule deer, I had no intention of passing up this guy. I was pretty darn happy to get him. Always a good time hunting with my brother and nephew.
Last week, my brother and I headed to Kansas for a whitetail hunt. Since getting skunked last year, I have been obsessing about getting one of these whitetails ever since. Had a blast up there, and tagged this buck the second morning of the hunt.
I also managed to get an elk on the ground in late October on one of the most unusual elk hunts I've been on. I bought a landowner tag from a guy that had a total of 150 acres. He had negotiated a longer season with the g&f, and had some good bulls around, so we gave it shot. It took a lot of trips before I finally saw an elk during shooting hours. It was probably more like hunting whitetails back east than hunting for elk, but it was still a lot of fun. Unfortunately, the bull had busted his antlers to bits, but still filled the freezer.
Here's a pic of him on trail camera from a month earlier when he still had a full rack...
Great season, good times with family, and a full freezer. Can't ask for much more.
