Banned lead

So I've been reading and rereading President Obama's last EO swipe at us bitter clingers, and I'm still not sure whether or not I'll need to re-sight my 300 WSM with some non-lead bullets for this upcoming NF/BLM barbary hunt.

Assuming Trump does not nix it before then, is there anyone out there associated with NMDGF that knows the final word on this?

Much thanks for any clarification.

Is it all Federal Lands or just USFWS managed?

https://www.fws.gov/policy/do219.html

"The purpose of this Order is to establish procedures and a timeline for expanding the use of nontoxic ammunition and fishing tackle on Service lands, waters, and facilities and for certain types of hunting and fishing regulated by the Service outside of Service lands, waters, and facilities."

Not sure what other hunting is regulated by the USFWS outside of Service lands. Migratory birds?

Can't imagine this one is going to stick. Let's hope not.

These are the parts that are confusing me:

Sec. 5. c. iii. Where individual Federal land units administered by other Federal agencies including the National Park Service, the National Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the Department of Defense, or other agencies, have enacted requirements for the use of nontoxic ammunition or fishing tackle, Regions should adopt such requirements on Service lands, waters and facilities in the same states as those units through amendments to Service hunting and fishing regulations, as appropriate.

Sec. 6 When is this Order effective? This Order is effective immediately.

I hate to admit that my buracratease is not very good...

I guess I read that as applying to only USFWS lands still. My interpretation is this: let's say that the new Valles Caldera preserve as a Park Service property suddenly mandates lead-free ammo. The USFWS "should", under this new order, adopt a lead-free requirement for all USFWS lands within the Region (AZ, NM,TX, OK). I don't read that as applying to non USFWS lands. It's like they want an out for mandating lead free on USFWS properties-- look the Park Service did it-- we are just trying to consistent across the region.

Could be wrong though.

Just received this directly from the NMDGF:

Good morning ?

Thank you for contacting us. After researching and speaking with our Colonel, the executive order banning lead bullets on USFS and BLM lands will not be in affect during your February Barbary sheep hunt.
