Good for you. Just know that even though it's the right and responsible thing to do, it ain't necessarily fun, easy or over once you report. You should expect to be brought back first for your deposition, then your testimony and cross for the first trial, and then again on their appeal. It may drag out a couple years. And yes, it's worth it. As hunters we need to be policing ourselves if we ever hope to clean up our public image.

Report them amigo! I just hope you're information is more kindly received and appreciated than the last time I reported. In any case report away. Just make sure you have all your ducks in a row first.

Turns out you can get away with murder here ?...everyone hunt as you please in NM cause it doesn't matter.

Stupid--even the one with the head missing still doesn't look very big. Hope they get nailed.

Interesting comment here hunt1. Maybe you're being sarcastic or maybe your information was greeted the same way mine was. I had such a difficult time, it made me want to forego reporting violations altogether.

In any case, I hope these guys are caught. Wasting game is ridiculous, no matter which species it is. Barbs are hard to find also, too bad someone is wasting them, and especially younger sheep as they appear to be.

Yep You can pretty much get away with whatever you want. About ten years ago now my buddy and I were hunting Barbary in 30 and came across a recently poached bull elk with the head missing. Took GPS coordinates and took pictures of the elk. Tried to report it but no one cared. I think the response I got was because there was not an established hunt it wasn't poaching or some bs like that. Since then I figure if I find anything I will just keep my mouth shut and go on. Quite a shame. Amazingly the next year in proclamation there was a hunt in 30 for elk.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-15-17 AT 12:28PM (MST)[p]I've seen elk in 30 that looked to me more like Tule elk that escaped from a game ranch from TX. I don't know whether that was the case with the one that you all saw, but that may explain why no one got too excited when you reported it.

However, I would not give up on G&F. I know their resources are stretched pretty thin, so sometimes they aren't able to get to everything. I've experienced both ways. I can also tell you that when they do take action and as the witness of the incident you end up in court on the stand being cross examined by opposing council it ain't much fun either. But it's still a fight worth fighting for all of us and the future of hunting for our posterity. Please don't give up on it.

Sure seems like a small reward. Would think they could do better than that.
Hope they are caught and slammed.
