I'm putting in yet again for barbary sheep. I really would like to see and hunt them. Any advise which group of units to try for as a nonresident for a decent chance at locating sheep? I could help out on advise in AZ. Thanks in advance.

Ouch! Too soon ???? haha

As a non res, you really only have the 2 choices. Neither is much better or worse than the other.
You will find that public land barbary sheep hunting is a tough prospect. There are hundreds of thousands of miles of huntable land, and there is only sheep on a small percentage of it.

Must have is a gps that shows public/private land. Barbary sheep will not tolerate pressure. They will move, and there is a lot of country they can move into.

Neither tag is any better than the other.

For 2016 it looks like NM allocated 6 percent of the tags to non-res DIYers, making it 40 tags available in one of the hunts 36 in the other. A total of 523 NRs but in for those 76 tags, making the odds of drawing one of them about 15 percent.

Because there are only two hunts, there's no odds to be gained in the order you apply other than your own preference for a particular unit. Put your most desired hunt as your first choice, and then the other as your second.

Just my own opinion here, but knowing how tough these two hunts can be if you don't already know the area or know a local, if I we're a NR I would take a really hard look at some of the west TX private ranch hunts as an alternative. Seems to me that there are some pretty good deals offered on MM for those.

If I draw the tag I'll give it to you. Barb sheep hunting is stupid. Lol
Its brutal but fun. Get in shape. And I mean IN shape not A shape as in round. Lol

Thank you all for your input.

I have not been able to find a west Texas hunt I can afford yet, but I'll keep looking. I haven't been lucky on the draw as of yet but will keep trying. That's why I am hoping to make the best of it if I do get lucky to draw.

I hear you and I can respect that. All I'm saying is knowing now the amount of time that I've put into barbary hunting (I do love it), and now being successful only six out of nine times, what I used to think were high prices for those west TX hunts upon reflection don't seem so high anymore... ;-)
