Youth 2B deer hunt

HuntersTrailhead shows this hunt as a 90% draw. Has anyone taken their kid on this hunt or have any experience with it. Success rate showed only 40% which isn't all that great. Thinking of a hunt for my son. Thanks in advance.

In my opinion, NM is really dropping the ball on the youth hunt in 2B. The season is too early for the youngsters to get out and have as good of a hunt as they could if it were moved to after the other three seasons. If you have time to scout and find some local bucks, it could be world class, however, that time of year the numbers are generally pretty low due to lack of migratory deer.

I would hunt 2B any day of the year and be excited at the opportunity to find a dang good buck, but if I were taking a kiddo out and my goal was to have lots of opportunity, there are probably better hunts out there.

I appreciate your honesty. It's too bad they don't make most of the youth hunts later in the season. Isn't that the whole point of youth hunts? To help them be more successful to bring them on board for a lifetime of conservative support?

Wizard, Take a look at the Unit 4, late youth hunt in the Rio Chama WMA. Few tags (5) and hard to draw but some great deer coming out of there every year. Always willing to help out our youth as they are our future hunting generation.
