My 13 yr old son drew nonresident youth ibex tag. He is super excited. I might be a little too. Should be a great experience

Congrats on the tag, Mozey! You're in for an amazing experience. Getting my ram last December has changed me as a person and I'm still smiling. Best of luck and hold out for a thumper!

LAST EDITED ON Apr-14-17 AT 08:28AM (MST)[p]Rio--what ever you did, muchos gracias my friend. Let's plan to do it again next year for either rocky mountain or ibex (I'm not particular or greedy)... ;-)

I'm thinking this tag may justify a new rifle. I don't know much about it--how do you like your Creedmore?

LAST EDITED ON Apr-14-17 AT 08:27AM (MST)[p]Philthy, if you're ok with it, I may pm you for some info. I've emailed the ranch but haven't heard back from them yet. I'm going nuts trying to figure out if and when I can go scouting, how many helpers I can invite, etc...

mozey I like the idea , and my bride got it for me for our anniversary so its pretty sentimental for me.I seriously did draw an Barbary sheep tag so Im gonna have it dialed in and ready ....Yeah I believe your desert sheep may be reason enough, although I bet you have a something special in the locker for just this occasion.

Wow!! That's a dream hunt for me! Even to tag along. Awesome! Congrats!

Dang! U were lucky as a non resident. Congrats! I've had that tag twice. It's fun, addicting, and frustrating lmao

Great for your boy! I bet he's pumped. NM does an awesome job for youth. I've got a little buddy thatdrew the youth 13 muzzy tag. Should be awesome.
I got archery deer in a tough unit and a blood bath. Lol
Frees up some time to guide a few elk hunts.

If u can it's worth it! I did in March and teared up when my buddy's ram went down I was so happy. Something I'll never forget.

>I would love to just tag
>along on a sheep hunt

Chris, congrats on your son's late 2C hunt. You should have it locked up being from that area! Post up some pics. Sure you will look at Albert Mesa, Santos Peak, Chief Brown? Good luck.

I'v been a resident of NM now for about 16ys. Was Just born and raised in Wyoming. Were you able to kill an Ibex on your hunts? I'v hunting them with a friend on his muzzleloader hunt a couple of years ago. I'm scratching my head trying to figure out how I'm going to be able to close the deal with a bow haha

Oh I agree it would be totally worth it! They are awesome animals

I drew one of the Ram hunts in the Rio Grande Gorge (GMU 49, 50, and portion of 53 west of HWY 522). I have had a smile on my face since the results came out.

Any info sent my way would be appreciated. Never hunted Rams before.

Big daddy, congratulations. One good starting point is to begin scouting efforts by going to the west end of the Rio Grande Gorge rest area outside Taos and start glassing up and down the canyon and go from there. That is a good way to locate sheep. Would recommend you contact Eric Rominger who is the bighorn sheep biologist with The NM game and fish office in SFe.
Good luck and let us know how you do.

Thank you for the help and I will definitely let you know how the hunt goes. To say I am excited is an understatement. Thank you again!

Much congrats--I know the feeling--can't concentrate on school or work. My wife is ready to give me the boot...

LOL, I am the same way....Congrats to you as well. My friends back home on the east coast all want to come out for this hunt with me. I am not sure how I am going to go about getting this hunt done. I have never hunted this type of animal. I jumped on this forum trying to gain some knowledge.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-19-17 AT 08:52AM (MST)[p]I've hunted barbarys but never bighorns. From what I'm gathering, bighorns are not too different from mule deer...

Well, how do you hunt the Muley's and Barbary Sheep? Lol

I am an east coast military guy stationed here at White Sands Missile Range.

You may be the guy I need to be talking to because my son's drew an archery Mule Deer tag Unit 34, a Barbary tag Units 32, 34, 36-37, and an Archery Elk tag Unit 15.

Mozey, if you haven't done so yet, might consider calling Eric Rominger, the Bighorn game biologist for the department regarding the Fra Cristobal. Good luck!
