After getting skunked last year on everything, my wife and I drew deer. Looking forward to a fun hunt this fall and hoping the weather cooperates. Anyone else get 2b for deer?

Congrats man! I drew the 2B late rifle tag Nov 4-8. I haven't done a rifle deer hunt in years. I don't know anything about the area other than it's weather and migratory dependent. Anyone have any advice? I'll check the threads and see what's out there, but any input is greatly appreciated. Good luck to you, Rossimvz! It should be a great time!

Depends what you are looking for deer wise? if the snow flies you will see tons of deer and should nt have a problem getting a small buck near the roads. If you have higher aspirations find a locked gate road (the entire unit is a closed unit to MV traffic other then main roads. if you find an road locked and put in some miles and glass early and late you can get a nice buck

Congrats on your tag you have s better chance of the weather working out for you. I will PM you if I get some good info. I have some clients who live up there and used to work in the oil fields and will let you know if I get and help from them

You shouldn't have to get far off the road to find any legal buck. Bigger bucks will require more glassing, weather, and a little luck.

One question (probably won't be the last) I have read a lot that a lot of roads are closed. I live in Albuquerque so I will initially do scouting online. But how can you tell what areas have limited access because of closed roads? Google maps looks like their are roads everywhere.

You can get a Jicarilla road map from the US Forest Service website for the Carson NF.
