Drew my third choice deer, 6a-6c. What can I expect?

I drew it last year and again this year it is a okay hunt. Not a trophy hunt in any way but it covers a big area with low tags. Hunted hard and passed up forkys through the hunt and finally got a big body 3x4. Jemez has good deer numbers but also gets hit hard by road hunters. I hunted old burn scares and did good.

It's a sleeper unit I think.. Drew it 3 years in row for rifle hunt and not can't draw the tag.... some great bucks that I've seen but like mentioned above... a lot of road hunters and burn scar is a good place to hunt. Becareful with down fall

Thanks guys. I figured it was pretty tough and i dont expect a monster buck. Thats why it was my 3rd choice. Road hunters i didnt count on. Seems like each year that passes there is more and more of that and i see it everywhere not just in NM. Lots of people are lazy.

Giant bucks behind every salt cedar! J/K, there are great bucks in this unit if you are willing to pass on the little ones. Great bucks south of highway 4 along the bandolier border towards cochiti lots of walking to get in there though. Tons of deer off 31 mile road both on the top towards the Valle's Caldera border and on the bottom by Santa Clara canyon. Should be a great hunt just don't get discouraged, lots of country as well as hunters. The true giants bucks live in town and are use to people, pipeline road has tame deer and the biggest bucks expect you to feed them, feed them some lead! Good luck!

IMO, with sufficient scouting, and a good solid game plan, this hunt has the potential to end with a true giant. Because I live in Rio Rancho and this range is closest to me it is where I spend the most time, I have seen some whoppers. Don't overwhelm yourself with the enormity of the unit size, locate a remote area with all necessities (water, feed, shelter), deploy some game cams if you're into that, and spend time in the unit. I am not saying it's a sure deal by any means but I would be thrilled to have that tag in my pocket.

How is the hunt going.. WE seen some bucks but nothing big going out tomorrow to give it a other try. Hope your having better luck then I.
