My 13 yr old boy got lucky and drew this tag. I would love to hear about others that experienced an elk hunt in this unit. Both positive and negative and what to expect would be great. What class of buls etc. He is super excited and I'm trying to get him involved early in the game with research on the hunt. Thanks!

Great hunt. Get to hunt a couple days early and scout. Should be a blast.

i wouldnt settle for anything less than 360. however i basically live in the unit and know of some prime areas. i took my cousins sons in there 2 years ago. missed a 400" bull and a 390 and finally connected on this 370" bull on day 2.


had this bull not had a short left main beam and a short left g5 he would have been 390"+. but 23" 1's 2's and 3's is pretty awesome

Stomper that's a great bull. We could only hope for a hunt like you had with that many big bulls around. Thanks for sharing your story and picture. Any other stories, pictures or anything else helpful would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Elkhuntin .... I can't be of assistance since I've never hunted it but I finally drew a 34 NR Muzzleloader Tag and will be there shortly after you. If you want to share any information shoot me a PM and I'll do the same. I've got a family friend at Holloman so I'm trying to get some information from him but he isn't a hunter.
