NM Unit 21a

Anyone have little insight on how good the first rifle hunt is on this unit? Not searching for locations or secret areas. Drew the Oct 14-18th and am pretty pumped about the hunt. Should have good amount of time to scout before the hunt just looking for thoughts on the unit, quality of bulls, numbers of elk, etc. Success rates are fairly decent in the unit.

great unit, you will be in elk if you scout and put some boot leather down, there are some great bulls to be had. they should still be bugling at that time. I hunt the northern part of the unit. let us know how your scouting and pre season efforts go.

good unit, i haven't drawn 6 years now (archery)...definitely need to go out there on a few scouting trips, it's a long unit...not a lot of water, not close to as many elk as the 16's but they are in there...i was across the divide in 16C last year at the same time and they were very quiet...if you're not in shape i would recommend starting now because you may need to cover some territory...i love the unit and have spent many hours there learning it...i hope i can draw it again soon because i can be into elk within 30-45 minutes of parking...good luck.
