I drew a muzzleloader Elk tag for unit 2 in New Mexico and I am needing some help with the unit. Does anyone have any information on the unit?

2B inculded in this unit.
If it is I would hunt the border of the Jicarilla saw a few elk bull in around the water holes there during a deer season several years ago.

The hunting pressure has gotten so bad in this unit its really sad . Good news is Elk have moved in heavy on the north side of 64 up towards caracass and cabresto . Elk on the south side head straight for the res Day 1 of bow season when all the 120 hunters gather on the fence line and push them to the res. literally they line up and go. You will have a hard hard time finding any space on the fence lines . People will see 2-3 trucks parked and still go hunt there. Like they rather make friends then find the elk. Sorry to be doom and gloom but this unit is not what it used to be for elk or deer anymore. You and everyone else will be gathered on the fence lines . My advice after years of hunting this unit (I since have stopped) .Either go north towards co border and be patient they have moved in to this area very well now or theres some elk along the higway to aztec but you will have to work for them . Get out and scout a bunch you will need it to be successfull in 2 for elk

I'll help you out.... I am a life long resident of Farmington and have hinted unit 2 long before they split it up into A B & C, close to 30 years. Lots and lots of elk in unit 2, more and more each year. I mostly deer hunt in unit 2. I personally think that hunting the Jic line, either north or south is not your best option. Not because of pressure but because there is many many other spots that you will have better luck. I also hope you are not hunting horns. There are some decent bulls in the unit, they are few and far in between. I'd shoot the 1st 4 point or better you see. Lower is better. I'd stick to the lower country. Largo, south.....
