It is with great sadness that I write to inform you about the passing of our dear friend Lanny Rominger. Lanny was a member of NMCOG, he was on the Board of Trustees for the Wild Sheep Foundation (WSF) where he held the position of Vice Chairman, and until recently he served as president of the WSF NM Chapter (NMWSF). To the hunting industry Lanny was the face of NMWSF and he played a vital role in helping the NM Dept. of Game and Fish fund our nationally renowned bighorn sheep program. By providing the venue for the annual Bighorn Sheep Enhancement permit auction, the foundation has helped raise almost $5 million since 1990. Lanny's efforts were finally recognized this past February at the Governor's Banquet during which NMWSF was presented the 2017 Commissioners? Wildlife Conservation Partnership Award. ?
Lanny passed away this past Saturday following a battle with illness. I am truly sad to realize that I will no longer be running into Lanny at the ABQ airport each year on our way to Reno for the annual WSF convention (it seemed we always happened to book the same flight). Lanny was kind, humble, and he always treated me like an "Executive Director"; even when I was brand new to the industry and didn't know the first thing about hunting or wild sheep. I learned a lot from Lanny not only about wild sheep but also about professionalism and all around basic human kindness. My sincerest condolences go out to his wife and family. Lanny will be greatly missed by all who knew him!
